Singapore Night Festival 2015
The perfect event for art enthusiasts and even to the not so arsty-fartsy people like me who just wants to spend a night with something different and fun.
[[AUGUST 29, 2015]]
So my cousin and my cousin-in-law-to-be were looking for a place for us to go since it was my last weekend in Singapore. After deciding not to go anymore to Trick Eye Museum because it was already late, her friend told that there was a weekend event at Bras Basah. We're so lucky since it was the last night of the event, so it was totally grand compared to the other previous days of the event.
The event actually has a very broad scope. The whole streets/campus were scheduled to have different performers. So it depends on the viewers what they want to watch and whatnot but everything is for FREE (except for the food and souvenirs). There's so many activities to choose, from museum hopping to food tripping to theater performance.
[LET'S START]
It was around 9 PM and we saw a crowd piling up around the De La Salle Arts building. We got curious and after a few minutes, a group of performers rocked their beat while some were dancing some ethnic martial arts moves. It was really awesome knowing that it was our first time to witness that kind of performance. (My apologies, I kept on searching what type of performance that was, I just don't really know)
So after the performance we then moved towards the museum. The place was so crowded but it was fun to see different types of race. Since we're in an arts festival, you could really see that majority of the people there were young. Everyone's wearing according to their style, I actually feel that everyone there were bloggers.
The museum has different moods and themes. I'm not sure but I think they were the college students' projects. If you could just see them in person, the texture were brilliant. Most of the materials were invented from scraps and they have their purpose and meaning to society during the past decades as well to the modern era. The art displays conveys the different issues Singapore has. I know I don't know anything about art but you could easily know each one's story.
HERE ARE SOME OF THE ART PROJECTS I GENUINELY LOVE!!!
After an hour of roaming around museums, we decided to chill at the field. The place was like a concert. Scattered on the field were different stations of performers but we decided to just grab some munchies and listen to the band. The band is okay, they played up-to-date songs with a hint of Chinese/Malysian accent and lyrics.
Later on, I decided to look for a dessert and all of a sudden I was surprised that something was flying towards the sky. I thought it was a UFO but then I saw some kind of mannequin which is really a person. Later on, some of the dancers also appeared, dancing like ballerinas together with an angelic voice in the background. The group was highly known for their unique theatrical performance. They were the so called GARDEN OF ANGELS. So that was the performance everyone was waiting for in front of the National Museum. It was really a tremendous one and you could really say that they end the event perfectly. Love love love!!!
I'm hoping to encounter another kind of art festival someday, maybe better than this but so far this is the best experience I ever had in terms of art appreciation. My views about creative people really changed. Kudos to all the people who made this event successful!
