Heneral Luna Movie Review

As a country, we had suffered from tremendous terrorism all through out our history. From the Spaniards to Americans and lastly, the Japaneses. We've been taught about our national heroes, our presidents and tragedies that led us to wars with our past rivals of our own land. We know how much blood that shed upon our thirst of freedom. But are all these teachings inside the classroom enough to know the real tragedy? Did we really know whose the enemy of the Filipinos?

So I decided to make a late review about the Heneral Luna movie. Honestly, I'm not a history fanatic but I can say that the story of the movie made me love my country even more despite all the happenings now with politics, social issues, etc. I am familiar with the basic Philippine history but I wasn't aware of what really happened before. I didn't know the people who were trustworthy during those eras.
Before, I thought it might be good if the foreigners continued to reign the Philippines...but I was wrong. This movie really woke me up. It's not about them, its about us. We pity ourselves so much that we've been drowned with greed and pride without noticing the effect of it as a whole. And we always thought that the only solution is to be servants of others. But the reality is...We're the enemy of ourselves, of our own kind!

From the movie itself, I love what Heneral Luna said, "Negosyo o Kalayaan? Bayan o sarili, pumili ka!". Even though he got easily got burnt by his own temper, he's selfless and brave. He knows what we need. We need to think and act as one and not just think about the compensation we could get from being allies of other countries for long term benefits for the future generation. Almost everything that we Filipinos can't understand even now. It's been one characteristic we  were known for, COLONIAL MENTALITY

The movie gave so many messages with what happened during the past and the ones that were still present. We keep blaming one another, we keep sabotaging others that were really in our team. Our minds were corrupted that even ourselves have been doubtful to be considered "Worth-dying-for". I was hurt, I am guilty for all what Heneral Luna had said. I am the enemy of myself and so is everyone else.

To sum up, this is a crowd pleaser movie. I was hesitant to watch it at first but it's really worth the money. I'm just hoping politicians could also learn from this and made their conscience do the thing. We still have hope. We just need to stand for it.

Frankly whether we admit it or not, we keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again and this movie hopefully awakes all of us to break the vicious cycle, particularly in politics. Let's stop fighting and just move forward. Nothing is impossible if we stop being pragmatic. We need a real change NOW!
